A New Year: Time to Reflect and Renew

January 2, 2017

The New Year is a time to reflect and renew and many of us opt to make a resolution or two.    “The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book waiting to be written,” said Melody Beattie, author.  “We can help write that story by setting goals.” While it is easy to make a resolution, the hard part is keeping them.   We share some tips for helping you achieve your goals in 2017:

– Write it Down: When you write down your resolutions, you are taking the time to state your goals. This give you time to reflect and ponder what you really do want to achieve in 2017.

– Think Short Term – Instead of resolving to engage in a weight loss plan for the entire calendar year, how about taking on a full week. If you set shorter term goals, you are more likely to get long-term results.  Once you have nailed down one successful week, you are more likely to follow up with another week.

“I think in terms of the day’s resolution, not the years,” said Henry Moore, renowned sculptor.

-Celebrate Each Milestone – Whether your resolution is saving $10,000 or losing 50 pounds, celebrate each milestone. Enjoy a warm bath after tucking away $200 extra or losing 2 pounds.  Remember life is a journey and it is important to embrace it all.

-When You Fall, Get Back Up – We are all fallible and there is no reason to beat yourself up about not being perfect. A resolution lapse is not reason to give up.  Consider your lapse a hiatus and pick up again the next day or week. As Oprah Winfrey said, “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
